OSW Class Tonight

Tonight I had a One-Sheet-Wonder cardmaking class at the LSS (local scrapbooking store).

I have to say that this is the easiest class to teach!

First of all I don't bring anything with me other than a handout - this consists of a 10 card template and a 4 page blurb with photos. I also bring some samples that I made up to give them some ideas for matting, finishing and embellishing their cards (I've posted these samples before).

I instruct the customers to pick out a piece of patterned paper and 5 pieces of coordinating solid cardstock from the store's supply as soon as they arrive. Then I ask them to cut all of the paper into 8 1/2 x 11 sheets (we're starting off with 12x12).

After that I walk them through the template and as they cut the paper I have them put the pieces on the template. I learned this one the hard way when I - MYSELF - accidentally cut up a template piece thinking it was scrap!

Next we do the "hot dog" and "hamburger" cuts on the solid card bases and then it's assembly time. Usually this is a free-for-all with lots of trimming and gluing but tonight's group was really well behaved and quietly worked away at making thier 10 cards.

While they are cutting I'm offering advice on matting, finishing and also ideas for greetings - stickers, rub ons, stamps and/or computer printed greetings.

Tonight's class finished 30 minutes earlier than the allotted time and the customers had a walk around and a chance to shop the store.

Next week I have an "I Do!" wedding invitation & favour class at the store (repeat of last week's class) and then just 2 more classes in June (another OSW and a Father's Day class) until I break for the summer!

I'll still stamp, scrap and create but I'll be doing it just for me and not under pressure for swaps and classes.

I can't wait!

  1. I'll bet you ARE ready for some rest - that' really a hectic schedule & it's so hard to have that deadline to meet. Glad your class went so smoothly & that your break is almost here!
