Owl Together Now!

Owls have been popular in papercrafting for a while now.

I know I personally own at least 2 owl stamp sets, an even an owl punch but now I've got 2 little owls to keep me company in my craft room!

Check these out:

These are made with the Sizzix Pillow Box die as the base and then punches for finishing touches.

Even though mine a little bit wonky I think they are really CUTE!!!

I saw them on Kerry's blog who found them on Pinterest where they were pinned from Gen's blog!

Until Next Time!

What I'm Up To Monday - Looking for Hersey's Nuggets

This week will go by very quickly as it's the last week before the kids go back to school - at least for us it is!

While I'm doing my back-to-school shopping I'm keeping my eyes open for Heshey's Nuggets.

I want to make little mini mailboxes like THESE as Christmas treats and I haven't been able to find the nuggets at my usual shops (I'm in Canada).

The stock guy at the local London Drugs (where I've bought them before) told me he thought that Hersey's had discontinued them - GASP! - and that they were being repackaged differently - YIKES!

ETA 08.30.10: I emailed Hershey and they wrote me back that they still make them and that some stores may only stock them at the holidays.  WHEW!

I hope he is wrong but have you seen the newYork Peppermint patties? What's that about?  How am I going to use them for my papercrafts punch projects now?

Anyway I'll keep looking for them and if you're in Canada and have a "current" source for the nuggets please leave a comment on this post!  Thanks!

In the meantime I've made a couple of the mailboxes using Dove chocolate treats as a substitute.

Check it out!

ETA 08.30.10: Today I checked Shoppers Drug Mart, Walmart, Great Canadian Superstore and Zellers - but no one has nuggets!  The Nugget Hunt continues...

Family Frame

I just made this for Shelley, the lady that owns the store where I teach classes - SCRAP ARTS!!

It's not my original idea - I "borrowed" it from the obscenely talented Heather Neidig!!!

Belated Birthday Gift

ETA: Someone asked me how I made this Flip Album. I got the original idea and directions from Diane Pappas' blog. Click HERE for her Flip Album Tutorial.

I made this Flip Album for my niece's 10th Birthday - it was last week!

I know I'm so late but we did chip in on something else for her so only this part of her gift is late.

This is the bare album - I'm hoping that she will have enough photos to fill it up - and I'm also sending a gift card to Michaels so she can buy some more "stuff" to put in it.

I have to tell you that I put this together with only a glue stick and now that it is completely dried it's as hard as a rock. Seriously this is only cardstock and patterned paper but it feels like a board book it's so hard!

Here's a close up of the colours and patterns I used.

Here are some inside shots.

I hope she likes it. If you're reading this Riley it's going by Expresspost today so you should have it by Friday!!

More Ideas for Teachers' Gifts?

Thanks to HF for this comment left on my last post:

As a teacher, I can tell you that those pencil cans would totally be appreciated. There's nothing teachers love more than organizational tools!

I think it's really great that your school is doing something like this!

Teacher Appreciation Week is something that our parent group does every year but we struggle to come up with mailbox surprises (simple treats) and 1 desk gift idea.

We try to keep it simple but inevitably there is someone in the planning group who REALLY APPRECIATES the teachers and wants to go overboard!

I think we're going to go ahead with the pencil cans but maybe there are other teachers out there that could provide us with some insight on what else teachers might appreciate. Not just for this Teacher Appreciation Week but for Christmas and School Year End gifts too!

I already know about the coffee mugs - enough already!

Teacher Appreciation Gifts

Does the Parent Association at your children's school do Teacher Appreciation Week?

Well mine does and I've been tapped to provide some simple, cheap and quick ideas for gifts. I'm not actually going to be making them all - just present some ideas and make a prototype!

This year's theme is International. So I'm trying to come with some "global" ideas that and also tying in the Thanks theme for appreciation of the staff and teachers at our school.

The first one is easy - a bookmark with Thanks written in lots of different languages and a calendar on the back.

This next one is earth & flag magnets! Here's a photo of the earth one:

I found a photo of the earth and I've punched them out with the 5/8" circle punch. I glued them (using cyrstal effects) to glass pebbles and added magnets.

I think it turned out so cute!

This next one is a pencil can (from Campbell's soup) covered in old maps and embellished with a strip of grosgrain.

I really liked how this turned out so I made this one for myself!

The crown paper is DIVA by Luxe from their Color Me... line.

I've got some more samples to make - a Tic Tac treat and a chocolate bar wrapper. I'll share those when they're done.
